Natural Transformation
Our comprehensive sustainability strategy
As a company supplying millions of products to consumers, it is important to put a value on the positive impact that developing sustainable initiatives can have.
That is why we have incorporated environmental and social criteria across the entire value chain, so that each new product or formula we launch contributes to this cause.
See sustainability report >Building a better planet and a better society
As a socially responsible company constantly trying to strike a balance between protecting the environment, social welfare and economic growth, we have made the Natural Transformation one of the fundamental pillars of our entire business.
We consolidate, develop and implement good manufacturing practices aligned with our business and based on the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact.
Through specific initiatives, we have incorporated some of the Sustainable Development Goals into our corporate strategy to help build a more sustainable world.

A healthy and safe work environment
Occupational health and safety are essential for our organisation, and all workers and collaborators are required to adhere to Occupational Risk Prevention laws.
We promote the health and well-being of workers with projects like Cuídate, which instils the importance of adopting healthy life habits among our staff. The program’s main areas of focus are balanced nutrition, physical activity, good habits and emotional well-being. Every year we also participate in a blood drive to make our contribution in the area of healthcare.

Professional growth and development
At Ubesol, each of our workers is our company’s most valuable capital; that is why we invest in training, to help our team members specialise and become leaders at work.
We have a Leadership Training program to provide managers with the tools needed to manage, guide and mentor their teams.
We aim to promote a culture of prevention, which is why we also offer training in occupational safety for our entire staff, including Management.

We promote gender equality
We are strongly committed to policies that include equality of treatment and opportunities between men and women. We have an Equality Plan, framed within our Code of Ethics and managed by an internal committee, that evaluates the relative risks and impacts connected to non-discrimination at work.
We also have a Protocol Against Moral and Sexual Harassment, which develops the principles and rights included in our Code of Ethics.
Actions to boost equal opportunities:
Remuneration Policy
Our policy is equitable, with remuneration based on job position, level of responsibility, skills required and experience, without taking gender into consideration.
Work-Life Balance Measures
These promote a balance between time spent at work and with the family, depending on each person’s timetable, without taking gender into consideration.
Selection and promotion processes
Candidates are assessed based on their professional profile. Gender is not a discriminating factor.

We are careful to manage water sustainably
Water is a fundamental resource, especially so for our business because our products are water-based.
That is why we consider it necessary to comply with strict water quality parameters. We use the inverse osmosis technique, despite its higher consumption, though we compensate this with:
- Our own state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant.
- Sustainable water management by our employees and in the organisation’s operations.
- Studies on the installation of an osmosis wastewater recovery plant.

Energy efficiency
Optimising energy consumption is of utmost importance to us. That was the goal behind our 2018-2021 Climate Change Action Plan aimed at achieving a 50% reduction in our carbon footprint by 2021.
Measures taken to reduce energy consumption:
Green energy contracts in 100% of our facilities, certified with Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO).
Calculation of our carbon footprint, verified annually under the requirements established in ISO 14064-1:2012.
Replacement of our vehicle fleet with hybrid models bearing the “Zero Emissions” label, reducing C02 by 4 tonnes annually.
We work on C02 absorption projects and we are currently studying the installation of solar panels.

Committed to our people
We believe it is important to have happy people working with us
Actions that promote the well-being of our workers
- Remuneration above the sector agreement
- Stable employment with indefinite contracts
- Work-life balance with flexible working hours
- Internal Promotion Plan to cover vacancies
- Progresa Project for skills development
- Leadership training for middle managers
- Organisational health survey for our Improvement Plan
- Internal app to interact with each other and stay informed

Sustainable Digital Transformation
Our team of scientists constitutes nearly 10% of our staff and our facilities are equipped with the most advanced technology, putting us on the cutting edge of research, development and manufacturing.
That is why we continually train our workers in new technologies and continue to invest in new and safer equipment and in automating manual processes.
We have the ISO 9001 – Quality Management System and ISO 22716 – Good Manufacturing Practices certifications.

Local commitment
We are committed to using KM0 products, evidenced by the number of local suppliers in our supply chain. With this, we not only help local producers, but we also reduce the amount of transport required and thus help preserve the environment.
We collaborate with local entities to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities, helping them live as independently as possible.

Responsible consumption and production
Our environmental policy sets out the company’s goals for preserving natural resources and the health of the population at large. That is why we are committed to:
- Reducing environmental impacts like emissions, discharges and waste
- Optimising the use of natural and energy resources
- Guaranteeing compliance with current environmental regulations and law
- Including environmental criteria in the development of new projects.
Our actions:
We assess our suppliers using the EcoVadis platform, which rates sustainability performance in the supply chain.
We have environmental impact controls under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.
We are committed to reducing, reusing and recycling as a way to minimise the impacts of our business.
We promote good management practices for packaging, both internally and externally to consumers.
We restate our commitment to continue developing natural and sustainable products.

Zero landfill waste
Although a large part of the waste we generate is recycled or transformed into fertiliser, some of it still goes into a landfill. That is why we have marked a goal of zero landfill waste by 2025.
Because of the large volume of cellulose waste we generate, we have been working since 2018 on efficiently managing paper waste with the Life Ecopapel Project, through which we reuse the paper rejected on the production line.
Thanks to the improvements achieved by consuming water at the point of origin, and especially by changing over to an osmosis plant in 2018, we have considerably reduced our percentage of wastewater.

Working with participating members
Since 2018 we have been working as a participating member on the creation of the new UNE standard 149002:2019, which defines the criteria a product must meet to be flushed down the toilet, in order to reduce the environmental impact of wet wipes.
We carry out actions to raise awareness on the importance of correctly disposing of waste for the conservation of oceans and seas, among both our workers and consumers.

Transparent businesses that are responsible to all our stakeholders
We have a Code of Ethics aimed at establishing the values that must guide the behaviour of the company and the third parties it relates with.
We also have a Compliance Area within this framework, tasked with implementing the Regulatory Compliance Management System.
Internal policies and procedures have been developed to improve this system, including the Anti-Corruption Policy and the Conflicts of Interest Policy.

Joint projects
We work and partner on projects in several areas with the goal of continuing to strengthen our culture of innovation and to guarantee the best quality and sustainability in our products.
We partner with and form part of different institutions of particular importance in the sectors where we operate.
We also work with them on developing research projects, consulting and doing testing in areas that allow us to remain on the cutting edge.
